This illustration by Jessie WIllcox Smith (1863-1935) has been with me, kept in a folder or pinned on noticeboards or stuck to the door of my study, for decades.  It captures for me the magic of reading, of losing yourself in a book.  It has several angles covered: a generous window seat with good natural lighting, plump cushions to pad yourself with, and a quiet, crisp day outside reinforcing a sense of cosiness and security at home.

As we are about to celebrate San Jordi’s Day, the day of books, it seemed the best picture I could share.
