Are puffin eggs like a Jackson Pollock, or did Jackson Pollock find some inspiration in the designs of eggs?

We recently spent five hours walking around the Art Institute in Chicago, and couldn’t help wondering if Picasso hadn’t taken some inspiration and ideas from the magnificent late 19th century native American pots.

 

‘By the middle of May eggs are everywhere, the most beautiful ones, turquoise-flecked and scribbled in dark brown like a Jackson Pollock.’
