A curious yet convincing simile for lacking humour, by the great metaphorist John Steinbeck.  What would come to your mind to complete ‘as humourless as …’?

With apologies to all chickens, if they happen to be merrier than is visible to the human eye.  And if their lack of humour is due to how we treat them, shame on us.

… a tight hard little woman, humorless as a chicken.
