The 19th century Portuguese writer, Eça de Queiros, recounts how his dog left canine correspondence on his desk, to be delivered to his cat.

A few days ago I found on my desk some paper covered in barely legible scrawl which proved to be a letter from my dog, Don José, to my cat, Pussy, giving his impressions of France.

We aren’t told how the cat responded, if at all.
