This lovely word is Icelandic for ‘Christmas book flood’.  As you may know, Iceland is home to the world’s most committed readers and it has long been a tradition to give books at Christmas.   This leads to a flood of new publications in the preceding months, with a list of new books being circulated to all households.

And beyond their superior per capita book buying statistics lies the fact that this is more evenly distributed across the population, as compared to some other big book buying markets where books tend to be bought by a smaller proportion of the population.

So, I wish all you book lovers a happy Jólabókaflóð!
